I stopped messing around with HTML once CSS came onto the scene, because I felt overwhelmed by it. Since then, I've watched standards for websites go way, way beyond me. But I was recently inspired by a video about the personal web.
I thought about what I would even put on a website - what do I do or generate that I think anyone else would even care to see? Nothing. lol.
But then I remembered that it's okay and good to do something just for yourself, just because you want to. I was only able to learn ukulele with the benefit of frequent reminders that I wasn't doing it to play for other people - I was doing it because I liked the sound of it for myself. I liked having an instrument I could sing along to. And that's where it could stop.
I believe it's impossible to exist in this world without receiving heavy messaging about our value, and the value of what we produce, and how those things are entwined. I struggle with that messaging a lot, for reasons that will become obvious as I build out this site. But I know I grew up being told that anything I was even potentially good at, or anything I enjoyed, should be treated like a possible career path - something that could make me money or bring me fame.
I now find that approach to be repellent, despite how deeply it has twined itself into the root of my being. And so, I have decided to make a website for no-one else.
You can still look at it. There might be interesting or useful information. But paramount to my effort here, one rule: I am not allowed to care if anyone else cares. This will be difficult to embrace, but that's part of the project.
My ideas for what I want to put here include:
